Pikeville Independent School District High expectations, academic excellence, and strong community support are distinctive trademarks of the Pikeville Independent School District. Our community’s strong sense of ownership and pride in our schools is reinforced regularly by the leadership roles our graduates assume across the city, state, nation, and world. Our site-based decision making councils, faculty/staff, and local board pledge their best efforts to continuously improve the quality of our programs and classroom experiences. Pikeville Independent has one K - 6 Elementary School and one 7 - 8 Middle School; along with the 9 - 12 High School. In 2006, Pikeville was named #4 in the Top Ten School Districts in the state of Kentucky. Of 176 school districts, Pikeville was proud to be ranked fourth. Pikeville Independent boasts a teacher/student ratio of 1/16 - meaning students get strong one-on-one attention. In addition to the excellent education provided in the general subjects, Pikeville Independent also educates all of its students in music, drama, art, and athletics at all grade levels.With excellent visual and performing arts programs, Pikeville Independent students excell in performing arts careers as well as other professional careers. Pikeville High School sends an average 95% of its graduates to college. In the past three years, each graduating class has been rewarded more scholarships than there were graduating students. Pike County School District The Pike County School District is housed in the rural foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, in Pike County, the eastern most and largest county in the state of Kentucky. Pike County is the home of 23 public educational facilities, administered by the Pike County Board of Education, located at the county seat, in Pikeville, Kentucky. The Pike County School District is comprised of 15 elementary schools, 3 middle school programs, 5 high schools, and 2 day treatment centers. Big Sandy Community and Technical College As a member of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), Big Sandy Community and Technical College is a public, comprehensive educational institution that provides access to educational, cultural, and social opportunities for residents of the Big Sandy Region, which includes Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike counties. Pikeville College Pikeville College has deep roots and a proud heritage. It was founded in 1889 by Presbyterians with a mission of providing the best possible educational opportunities to the people in the mountain area of central Appalachia. Though the College has changed and grown in many ways throughout the years, this primary purpose has remained steadfast. It is important to know that Pikeville College is not simply buildings and programs, bricks and mortar.
